Testimonials

Even though I was born into a Muslim family, it was quite confusing as I had parents that would teach us their culture rather than what is true Islam. So in a weird kind of way I felt closer to the reverts than I did to Muslims from abroad, as primarily my exposure to things was from this country.
R2R’s Sunday circles are mashAllah one of the best that I have heard, very inspiring at times and relayed from a viewpoint that I can understand, not too technical, yet not too simplified, just right.

Shereen, Plumstead

I am French from an atheist background and converted to Islam about 10 years back. I started to attend the women’s circle offered by R2R seven years ago and still continue to attend when I can. This Circles have been absolutely key for me to build my knowledge of Islam and also to meet sisters.
The uniqueness of these circles is that those who attend are from different backgrounds, nationalities, ages, Muslim and Non Muslim…everyone is always welcome. R2R members have always been really helpful and supportive throughout the years. I ask Allah to reward all of them greatly for all their hard work and effort provided to all of us.

Karine, Islington

I have been attending R2R circles since I have been a Muslim; that was 10 years ago.  I have learnt so much and take away so much for my personal practice and iman.  I cannot wait to go to the following one every time.  May Allaah bless them to continue for many years to come.

Many scholars of the past shed light on the importance of tafseer a beautiful parable was given by Iyaas ibn Mu’aawiyah who said,

“The example of a people who recite the Qur’an and do not know its explanation is like a group of people who have a written message from their king that comes to them during the night, and they do not have a lamp. Therefore, they do not know what is in the message. The example of one who knows tafseer is like a person who comes to them with a lamp and reads to them what is in the message.”

Sa’eed ibn Jubayr also said, “Whoever recites the Qur’an and does not explain it, is like an ignorant person.” Also Imam Suyooti, author of the monumental work in Uloom al-Quran al-Itqaan says,

(The science of tafseer) is the most honorable of all sciences for three reasons. The first reason is with respect to its topic. It deals with the Speech of Allah, which contains every kind of wisdom and virtue. It contains pronouncements about what has passed, reports of what will happen and judgments concerning what happens between people. Its wonders never cease. The second reason is with respect to its goal. Its goal is to lead mankind to the firm Handhold of Allah, and to the true happiness, one that does not end. The third reason is with respect to the great need for this science. Every aspect of this religion and this world, in the near or distant future, is in need of the sciences of the sharee’ah and knowledge of the religion, and this knowledge can only be obtained through the understanding of the Book of Allah.

“Whenever people gather to recite the Book of Allah and study it among themselves – then calmness (tranquillity) descends upon them, the angels surround them, mercy covers them, and Allah mentions them to those who are with Him” (Muslim)

Testimonials

These classes are the weekly nourishment for my soul – I never thought studying tafseer would be like this. We’ve been taking a few ayahs per week from the beginning of the Qur’an and it’s been an amazing journey of history, emotions, morals, stories of Prophets, du’aas and purification. Each week I feel like I’ve learnt something fundamental to my understanding and personal practise of Islam, and every time I leave the class I feel that if I can implement what I have learnt that day – I will “make it” inshaAllah. I’ve read tafseer myself, listened to tapes and CDs etc, but the delivery of these lessons is so personal. At the end of each session, we study the lessons that we can apply to our own lives from the verses…I have read these same verses so many times before never contemplating on why or how I should use them for my own personal development, to help me get to Jannah and avoid Allah’s punishment. Now when I read these ayahs, they take on a whole new meaning to me…I feel attached to them, I appreciate slight differences in wording, I think about their revelation to the Prophet sallAllahu alaihi wa sallam – they move my heart. It’s amazing that a one hour weekly lesson can do this – may Allah continue to bestow His Blessings and Mercy upon this humble gathering and make it a source of success for our teacher and all those who attend, ameen.

The tafseer classes have made me really appreciate the miraculous nature of the Quraan, as we study the depth of each ayah. Even how the sentence is structured carries weight to its meaning. Every lesson is a precious gem

I always look forward to Wednesdays it’s my weekly imaan booster I cannot go without. The lessons leave me with so much to ponder on throughout the week and it has helped me to have a love for the Quraan more than ever. Long may they continue…
